CLINIC POLICIES & FAQS

Most health care services in Alberta require an Alberta Health Care card, so it is important to always have that information with you to avoid paying out of pocket. It is in your best interest to notify us of any changes to your contact information such as: address, email, phone number, insurance company, preferred pharmacy, spouse or emergency contacts.

Do you currently accept new patients?

We are currently not accepting any new patients. We appreciate your interest and understanding.

Do you take walk-ins?

We cannot do walk-ins, but we do have same-day-appointments for existing patients. Please call that day to book an urgent appointment.

Can I get a same-day appointment?

All our appointments are booked in advance, however we do have 7 same-day urgent appointments available Monday to Friday at Marda Loop Medical clinic. Patients need to call that day to book an urgent appointment. If we cannot accommodate an appointment we will offer referrals to the The Primary Care Centre  for seven-days-a-week, same-day appointments for emergencies. Please be advised that these slots are not for prescription refills or lab results that are not urgent.

What happens if I am unable to attend an appointment?

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please contact the office at 587 349 3595 to cancel or reschedule as soon as possible.  Cancellations or missed appointments with less than 24 hours’ notice will result in a $50.00 fee.  We appreciate your cooperation as your time slot may accommodate other patients with pressing medical concerns.

Is “no news, good news” at Marda Loop Medical Clinic?

At Marda Loop Medical Clinic we do not assume that “no news is good news”, so follow-up appointments are essential in reviewing all test results. Test results are discussed only with the patient present and are not given over the phone unless there are exceptional circumstances.

What do I expect after I get referred to an MRI, CT scan, or a specialist?

In order to get a referral for an MRI, CT scan, or to see a specialist, you must see your family physician and the appointment is booked on your behalf.  Once the appointment is confirmed, you will be informed about the date and time.  If you are unable to attend that appointment, please call the hospital or specialist’s office to reschedule.

If you do not receive an initial update informing you that your specialist has received the referral within 4 weeks, please contact us to inquire about the status of your referral.  Please remember to book a follow-up appointment with us 4 weeks after you see the specialist to follow up about the specialist’s recommendations regarding your diagnosis, or changes in medication.

What types of services are not covered by Alberta Health?

There are several services that are not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan, which you may find listed on the Alberta government website. Marda Loop Medical Clinic follows the Alberta Medical Association guidelines for pricing of uninsured services and those costs may be found posted at the clinic.

Can I call my doctor to get my prescription or refills?

Please call us to book an appointment if you need to speak to a physician. Prescriptions and refills are not routinely done over the phone, so please partner with your physician and pharmacist to avoid running out of medication between visits. You may contact your drugstore for the status of refills remaining on your prescription. If there are no refills left, please call the clinic to arrange an appointment to review your condition and medications.
